Overview

Apamea stretches along a plateau above the Ghab plain. Its great colonnaded avenue runs for well over a kilometre, lined with fluted columns and the traces of a large ancient city.

History

Founded in the Hellenistic period and developed extensively under Roman rule; later a Byzantine centre.
