Overview
Qal'at Salah El-Din sits on a narrow spur cut off from the mountain by a hand-carved rock channel. Surrounded by pine forest, it is one of the most scenic historical sites on the Syrian coast.
History
A Byzantine and later Crusader fortification captured by Saladin's forces in the late 12th century; UNESCO World Heritage listed.
