Overview

Bosra is built almost entirely of dark volcanic basalt. Its Roman theatre, later enclosed within a fortress, is among the best preserved of the ancient world, and the surrounding town retains streets, baths and early Islamic monuments.

History

Bosra served as the capital of the Roman province of Arabia and remained an important stop on pilgrimage and caravan routes. Ancient City of Bosra is inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
